“The problem of pain is the question of every generation and this generation has had many tools and toys to numb that pain. But those tools and toys still leave us empty because they leave us without God. Paradoxically, suffering gives us more of what we really need.
CS Lewis posed this very truth decades ago: ‘God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.’ In the Book of Job God is really loud.
In questions of suffering and sovereignty,
of lament and grief,
of friendship and faithfulness…
God didn’t show Job empathy, he showed him God. And what we need is more of God.”
